C. H. Spurgeon (Jun 19, 1834 – Jan 31, 1892) wrote, The treatment which the poor Bible receives in this world; it is accounted a strange thing. What does that mean the Bible accounted a strange thing? In the first place, it means that it is very strange to some people, because they never read it. I remember reading, on one occasion, the sacred story of David and Goliath, and there was a person present, positively grown up to years of maturity, who said to me, “Dear me! What an interesting story; what book is that in?” And I recollect a person once coming to me in private; I spoke to her about her soul, she told me how deeply she felt, how she had a desire to serve God, but she found another law in her members. I turned to a passage in Romans, and read to her, “The good that I would I do not; and the evil which I would not that I do!” She said, “Is that in the Bible? I did not know it.” I did not blame her, because she had no interest in the Bible till then; but I did not wonder that there could be found persons who knew nothing about such a passage. Ah! You know more about your ledgers than your Bible; you know more about your day-books than what God has written; many of you will read a novel from beginning to end, and what have you got? A mouthful of froth when you have done. But you cannot read the Bible; that solid, lasting, substantial, and satisfying food goes uneaten, locked up in the cupboard of neglect; while anything that man writes, a catch of the day, is greedily devoured.

Hello Grace Church!
PRAYER WORKS! Early Monday morning a longtime friend of mine from Wilmington called me. When I answered the phone Kevin said, “Mike, let’s pray together.” Those were refreshing words! One of Kevin’s friends had died unexpectedly at 41 years of age. I asked the Lord to use Kevin and to bless the family of his friend. When I was first became a Christian at the age of 16 a friend of mine told me later that they, along with others, in the Youth Group had been praying for me to be saved PRAYER WORKS… the Lord answered their prayers! Shortly after I became a Christian my pastor Dr. Ray Noland and others encouraged me to pray for the salvation of my brothers and for my parents. That was in the fall of 1968. Over time the Lord answered my prayers as my mother and each of my brothers came to Christ. In the summer of 2008 my Dad also came to Christ. After nearly 40 years of praying the Lord graciously saved my Dad. I said all of this to say once again that PRAYER WORKS! I want to encourage you to pray… it works! Jesus taught His disciples to pray and not to give up! Take some time today, maybe even right now, stop and pray! Like Jesus, Paul encourages us to pray! He said, 1 Thessalonians 5:17 Pray without ceasing! I sense an urgency in my heart about prayer. I share it with you and encourage you to pray. PRAYER WORKS! The Lord answers prayer; prayers that we pray! James, the brother of Jesus said, “You have not because you ask not!” TAKE SOME TIME TODAY… PRAY!

VISION SUNDAY is this Sunday! Plan to be in Sunday School at 9:45 AM. In the morning service I will share a message entitled, CHRIST ABOVE ALL… A REFLECTION from II Timothy 4:6-8. This is most likely Paul’s last challenge for us before his execution. Paul’s ministry lasted about 30 years. As he came to the finish line, he spoke. Come find out what Paul said to his pastor friend Timothy. You will be blessed and challenged!
God bless you as you serve Jesus today! As you go, know this! You have been prayed for… Lord, use us today to point people to Jesus! You saved us for Your purposes, use us for Your glory! In Jesus name, amen!
Christ Above ALL!

Hello Grace Church!
2017 is here! 2016 ended quietly but 2017 is here with a roar! My mother used to say. “The older you get the faster time flies.” Once again Mama is right. It is amazing how smart our parents become as we age. Recently as I studied for a Sunday message I came across John 3:30. In this verse John says, “HE MUST INCREASE, BUT I MUST DECREASE.” In just seven words John captures the essence of the Christian life… MAKING MUCH OF JESUS! At Grace Church in 2017 you can expect to hear these words often, “HE MUST INCREASE, BUT I MUST DECREASE.” If your life is like mine, I have to stop just to think at times. Here’s what I would recommend you do. Stop for a few minutes and think about these seven words. They will point you to JESUS! Think about HIM! Love HIM! Trust HIM! Rest in HIM! Serve HIM and share HIM with as many people as you can! Making much of JESUS will be the most important thing you do in your life… guaranteed!!!
Sunday, January 8 is VISION SUNDAY. A tremendous service has been planned. Don’t miss it! Come on in for Sunday School at 9:45AM. Invite someone to join you. Call someone you have been missing and encourage them to join you. We are studying the book of Joshua at this time. Joshua was a great leader. He was a courageous man for sure. His faith in God was unshakeable. There is a class for you and your family. Why not make Sunday Bible study a priority in 2017? You will not regret it!
You may not realize this but I pray for you every day. I ask the Lord to use you wherever you go in Greenville. I ask the Lord to use you at work. I ask the Lord to use your children at school. I ask the Lord to show you favor with people you meet during your day. I ask the Lord to use you and to use me every day! Everywhere we go on a daily basis I ask the Lord to use us! People all over Greenville need Jesus. What you have in Christ they need. Let the Lord use you… ask the Lord to use you… HE WILL! Take this to heart. We are in this together. We belong to the Lord and in Him we are connected together in Christ. 2017 is going to be a great year. Let’s enjoy it together! We are one, together in CHRIST!
Christ Above All!
