These are very interesting days in which we live! Being a follower of Christ gives us an advantage when it comes to understanding hateful displays of behavior. Whether we see it on TV, hear it on the radio, or read about it on the internet, we see it with the eyes of Christ and feel it through the heart of our Heavenly Father. Thank the Lord for His Word on the issues of LOVE and hate. Be thankful that the fruit of the Spirit is LOVE! Be thankful that knowing Jesus and having the abiding Holy Spirit makes it possible for us show those around us the LOVE of Christ! Jesus made it abundantly clear that LOVE would be the defining mark of His people. Some people love to hate! While others, simply choose to be like Jesus, and let LOVE rule in their hearts and lives! As Christians, we prefer and project benevolence over violence. Benevolence reflects the compassionate heart of Jesus! Consider this example, those sacrificing to help flood victims in Houston, Texas are in large part lovers of Christ! LOVE, pure and simple, let’s others know that Jesus is Lord of our lives. What a great day to be salt and light in a perishing world. What would Jesus say and do if He were here? I think Jesus would say something like this, “I love you, and I died for you. Give me your heart filled with hate and I will fill it LOVE! I gave My life for yours. Let Me live My LIFE through you!” Let’s be wise as serpents, and harmless as doves, as we show others around us the LOVE of Christ!
Colossians 3:14 And above all these put on love,
which binds everything together in perfect harmony.

As Christians we ought to be most thankful people in all the world! Our Lord watches over us in numerous ways. Think with me for a moment about how good the Lord is to us as His children! First, His presence is guaranteed! He never leaves His own! As a matter of fact, God’s Spirit comforts and guides us with His presence! Secondly, His wisdom leads us as we make decisions that reflect His work in our lives. Daily the Lord works all around us, all the while confirming His presence. Then again, think of the feelings of security that are ours if we get a little down or even depressed! He’s there!!! Jesus validated His love and compassion for us when He was humiliated and died on the cross. Yes, we have much to be thankful for today! Take a few minutes today, maybe even on your break at work to give thanks to your LORD! Paul encourages us to be thankful in 1 Thessalonians 5:18 where he writes, In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
This Sunday we are baptizing a number of people in our Morning Worship Service. Baptism means that you have received Christ as your Savior and you are publicly identifying with Him as your Lord. The Great Commission instructs us to baptize followers of Christ. Maybe you have never been baptized. Call me (252-341-4017) or Pastor Jamin (252-902-4805) and we can arrange for you to be baptized this Sunday! Baptism provides every viewer with a clear picture of the death, burial and resurrection of Christ! Following Christ identifies you as a child of God! Consider Matthew 28:19-20 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Last Sunday was a great day at Grace Church! Both morning and evening God’s Word went forth. This Sunday evening (8/13) I will be speaking from Revelation 12, teaching through each verse! I hope you can make it! Psalm 100:4 Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise: be thankful unto Him, and bless His name.
Wow! Here it is, Friday afternoon! This week has blown by for sure. Recently Cheryl and I were at a Little League Baseball game with our grandkids. I heard a voice shout, “Hey Coach Meshaw, do you remember me? You led me to Christ in the locker room at Wilmington Christian Academy.” At first, I had to think, and I did remember this young man that happened to be the umpire for the games that day! I had shared the Gospel with Tim and he prayed to receive Christ as a teenager. Honestly, that happened some 25-30 years ago. I am glad he remembered the day he came to Jesus for the forgiveness of his sins. I share this story to encourage you to spread the “Good News” of the Gospel. Surely you know someone that needs Jesus! Pray for them and then go to them with your testimony of how Jesus saved you. Often we assume that everyone knows about Jesus and how to be saved. That is just not true! Pray for that friend or family member that needs Jesus and then go. Just tell them what Jesus did for you and invite them to join you on your journey with Christ! God’s Spirit will use you as you share Christ! Send me a name at (email@example.com) and I will pray with you! Remember, “The Gospel is the power of God unto salvation.” Maybe someone is on your heart. Pray and go and see what the Lord does.
THANK YOU to everyone that was here last Sunday morning and evening. Pastor Jamin and our musicians always magnify Christ here at Grace Church. I heard many good things about the services and the music. Cheryl and I had a great time at her family reunions. We saw a number of people that we had not seen for some time. Also, THANK YOU to everyone that was here last Sunday evening for Pastor Robert Kornegay’s presentation about God and Science! You blessed him; he told me so! He sent me a note and was encouraged by how many of you were in the service. Again, THANK YOU for your faithfulness to Christ and His Church!
Psalm 126:5-6 They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. 6 He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.
REMEMBER, this Sunday we serve The Lord’s Table in our morning worship time. Every member of Grace Church should be here. Invite a friend or family member. If you have not been to the services in a while, join us! Don’t wait another week… come on back and join your brothers and sisters for worship! You will be blessed… I promise! Sometimes we drift away from Christ and His Church… if that is you, come back Sunday! We love you and miss seeing you!
Enjoy your weekend! Make much of Jesus… HE IS LORD OF ALL!
