Mom is with Jesus!

Dear Praying Friends,

The Lord is good! He is our all sufficient Lord! He has graciously wrapped us up in His grace and mercy! Our family has been blessed daily by your outpouring of love and prayers. Thank you so much!!! My precious Mother entered the presence of her loving Lord just before noon on Tuesday. I am so thankful that in the Lord’s providence I was allowed to speak intimately with her before she left this world into her everlasting rest in the arms of Jesus. Cheryl and I both were able to speak softly to her before she left us. Early Tuesday morning I told Mom, “Today is a beautiful day to enter the presence of your wonderful Lord. Jesus is waiting to receive you Mom. I love you.” I had no idea that by midday she would be in the Lord’s presence!

1 Corinthians 15:54 (KJV) So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

Honestly, I am sad knowing that I will never see her again this side of heaven. At the same time, I rejoice because she showed me how a true believer dies. She went peacefully, as though she was at rest. If you could have seen her, I know that you would agree. She fought a good fight. She ate sparingly over the last two weeks. I knew that she was ready to meet Jesus. I hope that one day I can meet Jesus just as my Mother did!

Pray for Pastor Jamin and our church as they gather tomorrow morning. I deeply appreciate Jamin, Chuck and Vicki for their faithful work for the Lord. They have been a tremendous blessing to me and Cheryl. They have blessed me over and over again with their good work. I hope you can be with them tomorrow!

Mom’s (Hollie Ruth Kelly) Memorial Service is scheduled for Monday at 1:00PM at Andrews Mortuary on Market Street here in Wilmington. Visitation will begin at 1:00PM and end at 2:00PM. The service will begin at 2:00PM. Thank you again for your love and prayers!

Joe Jacowitz Update

Pastor Joe and Sherry need our prayers. This is his most recent update. What a presious family in the service of the King! Share this update as the leads you! Joe and Sherry are trusting the Lord for Joe’s healing and so are we!!!
Saturday, 9/14,  5:41pm
Beloved Family and Friends,
Greetings in the name of Him who said, “with God, all things are possible” (Mark 10:27).
Three hours ago a team of doctors came into my room. The lead doctor said that during the last two days my white cells, red cells, and platelets had improved so rapidly and they would release me from the hospital tomorrow or Monday. This means that that the good cells are growing back faster than they expected, and, therefore, my immune system is strong enough to resume my normal lifestyle.  Actually, the lead doctor said, “I never saw this quick a recovery before.”  Needless to say, we PRAISE GOD for this great news.
As far as remaining cancer, the first chemo treatment destroyed over 90% of it. I will have a final bone marrow biopsy on September 28th to determine if a final chemo treatment is needed. If it is, it will be a modified amount.
It has been an incredible two days of rapid healing.  “Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I hope in Him!” (Lam.3:22-24).
Thank you for your love and for your prayers. The Lord is answering them.
Every blessing,
Pastor Joe and Sherry Jacowitz

This has been a week filled with suspense! Hurricane Dorian was a formidable threat! But the Lord had other plans. Being from Wilmington, I have been through many hurricanes. Dorian was mild in comparison to others of the past. We did get some wind gusts and lots of rain. One of my friends said today, “And we needed the rain!” All in all, the Lord was good! At the same time, we should be praying for those that took the worst of Dorian! We should also be thankful for the Lord’s protection and safety!

Tomorrow I will continue my message from I John 3:1-3, entitled “Loved Like Never Before.” Think about that, “Loved Like Never Before.” Remember to keep these words in perspective. God’s love for His children and church are beyond our understanding. Surely, this side of heaven we will not fully understand His love for us! At the same time, think about the life giving and life changing power of God’s love. He loved us when we were totally and completely unable and unwilling to love Him! Ponder that thought! The fact is this; God’s love changes us in more ways than we can count! God’s love provides us with the supreme motivation to love Him and those around us. Our lives are meaningless and purposeless without the Lord and His love!

1 John 4:19 (KJV) We love Him, because He first loved us.

I am looking forward to seeing you tomorrow. Continue to pray for my Mother. She is resting now, Mom is ready to meet her Lord! The Lord has been gracious and merciful to her. We praise Him on Mom’s behalf! We love you! Thank you for loving us as you have! Pray for our services and bring a friend!

In Christ Alone!

1 John 3:1-3 How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know Him. 2  Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when He appears, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as he is. 3  Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as He is pure.

Earlier today as I was thinking my way through Sunday’s message, the Lord rocked my tiny, little world. As you know, for weeks now we have been preaching through I John. We are now in I John 3:1-3. In these verses John highlights the “love” of the Father. This “love” has been “bestowed” on us as His children. John, in a moment of astonishment, pauses to give us a glimpse of this most spectacular attribute of our Heavenly Father. This caught me by surprise. It’s as though John stops writing, and calls us to attention so that we can take it with him. This love of the Father has a motivating effect! As children of God we do not live righteously to earn God’s affection. We live righteously because we have experienced God’s most amazing love in the person of His Son, Jesus! It may take a moment or two for this to sink in, but when it does, you will see your life in totally different light! Literally, God’s love ignites His divine nature within us, producing a holy desire to live godly in Christ Jesus! Yes, we can all agree, the love of our Father is a powerful, motivating force.

This Sunday our deacons will serve the Lord’s Supper. Plan now to be in your place as a child of God and as a member of Grace Church. God’s Word never encourages unbelievers to participate in the Lord’s Supper. On the other hand, God’s Word specifically calls every believer to partake of the Lord’s Supper as often as our church serves it. As you bring your children, teach them what it means for believers to receive the bread and the juice. The Lord may use your teaching to draw them to Jesus. You may also invite other believers to join you at the Lord’s Table.

Thank you for your faithfulness! As I left church Wednesday evening my heart was full! I love the time I have with our men each week on Wednesdays. Teaching Scripture and hearing the responses of my brothers stirs my heart! Thank you for your prayers as we prepare for Sunday. Keep your eyes on Jesus and your knees down. Jesus may come today… be ready!

Jesus is Lord,

1 John 2:26-29 (KJV) These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you. 27  But the anointing which ye have received of Him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in Him. 28  And now, little children, abide in Him; that, when He shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before Him at His coming. 29  If ye know that He is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of Him.

Recently I was thinking about my dad. He was a fan of the New York Yankees. His favorite player was Mickey Mantle. Mickey was a 20 time all-star and played on 7 World Series Championship teams. He played from 1951-1968 with Yankees. He was and is a Major League Baseball icon. To me, as an aspiring little leaguer, Mickey Mantle was what we call today a “Super Hero.” Even now when I think of him, I see him as a mythical figure. So why am I writing about Mickey Mantle? Well, recently in my reading I saw where he played just 18 years of major league baseball. That’s a short time for sure. Mickey died at the age of 63 on August 13, 1995. So what’s the point? Life is short! There are no dress rehearsals. We only live one life and we never know when it will end. As Christians we have the privilege of living for Jesus. An 18 year career is not that long! Mickey Mantle was no doubt a great baseball player. His life cries out to each of us. Live your life for something bigger than yourself. Mantle certainly had his demons and so do we. James, the half-brother of Jesus, said “Life is brief, it is a vapor that is here and then gone.” Live your life for Jesus, He is worthy. Live daily for the One who gave His all so that we could live pointing others to Him. Think about it!

By way of a reminder, this Sunday in our Worship Service we will have “The Blessing of the Backpack.” Pastor Chuck will recognize our young people returning to school. I will be sharing a message from I John 2:26-29. This is a powerful passage of Scripture dealing with the believer’s assurance of salvation. As believers, we must have a clear Biblical view of the person and work of Jesus! Abiding in Christ is the believer’s best preparation for the return of Jesus. I trust you are saved, and ready if Jesus were to come today. Today is the day of salvation!

I look forward to seeing you this Sunday. Worshiping together and praising the Lord together is vital for each of us. We all know professing Christians that used to attend church. Pray for them, then call them, and invite them to join you at Grace Church. They will never regret it, and you won’t either! Thank you for your faithfulness to the Lord and His house. Also, thank you for your generosity regarding the work of God! He is worthy of our best… let’s honor the Lord daily with our very best!

God bless you and yours,
Mike and Cheryl <><
